Notice served after Travellers move onto land in Wellingborough town centre

The group of Travellers has until tomorrow to vacate the area

Notice has been served on Travellers who moved into gardens just behind the offices of Wellingborough Council on Sunday (May 24).

The Travellers set up an encampment in Swanspool Gardens, which is behind Swanspool House where the council is based in Doddington Road, during the Bank Holiday weekend.

Wellingborough Council told the Northants Telegraph yesterday (Tuesday) that they had reported the encampment to the County Traveller Unit, which is based at Northamptonshire County Council.

The spokesman added that they would work with the County Traveller Unit and Wellingborough Norse to follow the necessary steps in line with the Government's latest guidance regarding Covid-19.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire County Council has today (Wednesday) said: “A section 61 notice was served earlier today which gives the group until tomorrow to vacate the area.”
