New councillors on East Northamptonshire Council

Two new councillors will be replacing departed Conservative colleagues on East Northamptonshire Council.

Two new councillors will be replacing departed Conservative colleagues on East Northamptonshire Council.

Bert Jackson will be representing Higham Ferrers Chichele ward and Peter Tomas will be representing the Higham Ferrers Lancaster ward after seeing off the Liberal Democrat competition at the by election which was held on the same day as the General Election on December 12.

They replace Anna Sauntson and Pamela Whitings who both stood down from the council.

Cllr Jackson beat his only rival Suzanna Austin by 579 votes and Cllr Tomas beat the other nominee Simon Baylis by 913 votes.

On the same day Conservative Alexandra Wellings was elected as the new councillor for Weldon and Gretton ward on Corby Council.

Cllr Wellings beat second placed Labour’s Ann Wallington by 351 votes.

The ward became available after long standing Conservative councillor Rob McKellar decided to stand down after moving to the North West with his job.
