Extra cash for One Wellingborough project to continue helping people during pandemic

Additional support has been approved for the One Wellingborough project so it can continue helping people during the pandemic.

Wellingborough Council has agreed to extend funding of the One Wellingborough project until April 2021.

One Wellingborough is a partnership between the Victoria Centre and Glamis Hall to provide additional support and capacity to the more vulnerable within the population.

With the support of more than 100 volunteers, since March 2020 One Wellingborough has helped more than 2,500 people from Wellingborough with more than 6,000 different support tasks.

This includes more than 2,600 welfare phone calls and providing more than 1,500 meals.

Wellingborough Council leader Cllr Martin Griffiths said: “The One Wellingborough project has been a tremendous example of partnership working to ensure that many of the most vulnerable, lonely and at risk residents in our borough have received support during this dreadful period.

"As we get used to this new lockdown period I am delighted that we have been able to fund the One Wellingborough Project teams at Glamis Hall and the Victoria Centre to continue their

excellent work which has undoubtedly targeted help to those in real need and contributed to saving lives, since the outbreak of Covid-19.”

Heather Saunders, chairman of trustees at Glamis Hall, said: “We are delighted the borough councillors have agreed to fund the continuation of this vital work.

"We are expecting a surge in demand for shopping, medicine collection and emergency food deliveries during the winter as people are isolating and need short term help.

"We look forward to continuing our work with colleagues from the Victoria Centre and the council to help get the people of Wellingborough through this most difficult time.”
