Councillors have deferred their decision on whether to grant permission to a children's home in Croyde Avenue after hearing a string of concerns.

The plan for the conversion of the former family home into a children's home for two teens had gone before Corby Council's development control committee earlier this week.

Officers had recommended it for approval.

But after hearing submissions from locals and from the councillors themselves over noise and parking, the committee decided they needed to consult with police before making a final call.

One member of the public, whose elderly parents live close to the proposed developement, spoke at the virtual meeting. He said: "I've serious concerns about this.

"My mum and dad have had nothing but trouble and anti-social behaviour.

"Yesterday the police were called to the property.

"You can't park anywhere. The carers have been parking on the pavement, blocking the path.

"My mum can't get past because she's disabled.

"She feels intimidated because of the swearing and banging on doors and shouting and arguing. The police have been to the property on several occasions."

Several councillors raised their own problems with the home, with Councillor Anthony Dady saying that he didn't think it was a suitable place for the home.

Cllr Kevin Watt said: "I am reluctant to impose this on the neighbours. After your family the most important people in your life are your neighbours. The can make it good or unbearably bad."

Cllr Judy Caine said that she had struggled to get her car around Croyde Avenue because of the car parking issues and requested that the police were consulted before the committee could fully consider the application.

The committee voted to defer their decision so that local police can be consulted.
