Plans have been submitted to North Northamptonshire Council (NNC) to demolish an Oundle home for a new “retirement living” complex – exclusively for over 60s.

The proposed development is for 43 accommodation units, comprising 42 apartments and one bungalow, for people of retirement age and above.

The single apartment building will be two-and-a-half storeys high, including 19 one-bedroom and 23 two-bedroom apartments. The one-bedroom bungalow will be located at the front of the complex on 19 Herne Road, on the south-eastern edge of Oundle.

It will include a homeowners’ lounge, guest suite, reception area, mobility scooter storeroom with charging points and a communal garden outside. Three-quarters of the apartments will also have private balcony areas or patios.

The communal garden will be an “integral” part of the proposed site for residents and will include seating, a sensory garden, and planting areas to ensure an “attractive and sociable” atmosphere.

Currently, the site contains a single residential home and is predominantly greenfield land with an unused paddock that is situated to the rear. The house at 19 Herne Road is proposed to be demolished to provide sufficient room to accommodate the new driveway into the development. A total of 32 car parking spaces will be provided for residents, staff and visitors.
