The development, made up of 81 homes, car parking, open space and landscaping, would be situated in land between Rothwell Road, Thorpe Road and Gipsy Lane, close to the crematorium.

Access into the site would come from a new entrance on to Rothwell Road, after a potential entrance from Gipsy Lane was opposed by Northants County Council.

There would be 10 four-bed houses, 35 three-bed houses and 12 two-bed houses.

There would also be 16 two-bed affordable houses and eight one-bed affordable houses.

A planning document reads: “The scheme would provide a significant number of material benefits, not least the provision of some 81 homes including the policy-compliant affordable housing, a range of accommodation types in response to local needs, additional open space, pedestrian, cycle and highway improvements, landscape and biodiversity enhancements and financial contributions towards services and facilities.

“There are clear benefits which demonstrably outweigh the minimal harm.”

A decision is expected by May 30, although the application form indicates it is likely to be approved.
