Plan to convert former Corby church to flats approved

The Lutheran church hall, which was most recently home to the ABC nursery, will now have a domestic rather than spiritual mission as Corby councillors on the borough’s planning committee approved the plan last night (Tuesday).

The building in Stuart Road, which dates back to the 1960s, will be divided into six two-bedroom flats and there will also be 10 parking spaces and a cycle shed.

At the meeting a Mr Lapsley who spoke on behalf of the applicant said: “The owners have been marketing the property for over two years and a suitable buyer has not come forward.

“This will substantially upgrade the appearance of the building.

“There will be cladding and slate roof to replace asphalt roof.

“The layout has also been carefully considered.”

A previous planning application for the site to knock down the building and create 15 flats had been refused by the council in January.

The seven councillors on the panel did not have any questions, with Cllr Bob Eyles stating that it was important that tenants did not park on the road or use the car park of the neighbouring mosque or health centre.

The decision to approve the flats was unanimous.

Also at the meeting a decision on an extension at 131 Rowlatt Road was adjourned as the councillors said they would like to make a site visit before deciding whether to approve.
