Wicksteed Park holds first volunteering day

Wicksteed Park held its first volunteering days since announcing its trading company has gone into administration.

On Monday, June 15, the Northants Telegraph reported that Wicksteed Park Limited had gone bust and a statement from the park shortly after confirmed that 48 permanent staff and 67 part-time jobs had been lost.

To help with park maintenance, Wicksteed announced on Thursday, June 18 that it would hold volunteering sessions: "We have been overwhelmed by the number of people offering up their time to help us maintain and preserve the park, so we are pleased to confirm that our first group volunteering sessions will begin next week."

The first session was held yesterday (Tuesday) morning.

In a post on Facebook, Wicksteed Park said: "Well, what a way to start off our volunteering days.

"Such a hard working bunch we have had with us this morning!"

Photos from the volunteering session show people gardening and with bags of green waste after clearing flowering beds.

Wicksteed Park said: "We can't thank you all enough.

The park is continuing to fundraise through donations from the public and announced this morning the total is now £118,880.

Wicksteed Park said: "What a glorious sunny day. Remember, thanks to the efforts of the Wicksteed charity and everyone else who is supporting us, the park remains open for you to enjoy.

"It's days like this that underline just why we all love the park so much.

"Today's fundraising total (including gift aid) is £118,880, which is a truly brilliant effort. Thank you for your amazing support."
