A woman who was being assaulted on a Wellingborough street was helped by two passers-by who chased off her attackers.

The woman was walking along Tithe Barn Road, between 10.30pm and 11.10pm on November 2, when she was approached by two men who forced her arms behind her back, pulled her to the ground before trying to drag her into nearby Croyland Gardens.

Two men who were in the area heard her cries for help and chased the offenders but they got away.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "Police officers are appealing for help to trace two members of the public who came to the assistance of a woman in Tithe Barn Road, Wellingborough.

"The incident took place between 10.30pm and 11.10pm on Monday, November 2, when the woman was approached by two males and assaulted.

"The offender forced one of the woman’s arms behind her back and pulled her to the floor, before attempting to drag her into Croyland Gardens. However, the woman shouted and got away.

"Two young males walking past the council offices in Tithe Barn Road, heard the woman and went to her assistance, before chasing after the offenders. However, they got away."

Nothamptonshire Police would like the community-spirited men, or anyone else who may have witnessed this incident, to contact them.

The spokesman said: "The main offender is described as 5ft 6in, and had piercing blue/green eyes, and slicked back hair, which was short at the sides. He was wearing a light coloured tracksuit top, skinny jeans and trainers.

"He was with a male, who was between 5ft 9in and 6ft, of a slim build and wearing a dark baseball cap and dark coloured tracksuit."
