A Wellingborough landlord has thanked his customers and staff for nominating his pub for an award.

Ronan Masterson, landlord of the Queen's Head in Broad Green, was 'elated' his pub won the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) town pub of the season award.

Pub owner, Ronan, who took over behind the bar 18 months ago, said: "It's fantastic to be recognised. I'm elated. The team really works hard and to win shows that all the hard work we have put in has paid off for the community and the customers.

Award winners are voted for by CAMRA members vote who score the hostelries on ambiance as well as the quality of their beers.

Ronan said: "They vote on the friendliness of the welcome, the ambiance and of course the beer.

"Our best seller is harvest pale from a brewery in Nottingham. We also stock six real ales including locally brewed ales such as from Phipps and Nobby's Brewery."

Since taking over Ronan has been holding regular quiz nights, serving lunchtime pub grub and hosting live bands.

Management team member, Michelle Barritt said: "What an amazing achievement this is for Ronan. The management team, Brendan, Hannah, Amy and I work very closely with Ronan.

"We are proud beyond words that's he's receiving this award. He is continually improving the popularity of the pub. He's introduced a fun weekly quiz, the pub has two beer festivals a year and live music acts are always a hit.

"The pub always introduces new guest ales to compliment the regular ales, which the customers look forward to trying.

"The pub is an avid charity supporter, and collects for various charities. It's such a deserved award for Ronan and it couldn't happen to a nicer landlord."

Members of the team are now planning the 2020 activities starting with a special Valentine Day Mrs and Mrs Quiz, followed by a Shrove Tuesday pancake race against real ale rivals The Little R'ale House.

Season winners in each of the different categories will go forward to the win the coveted CAMRA pub of the year title.

Ronan said: "Now we'd like to win the pub of the year. We're in with a chance thanks to the customers and the staff."
