A spokesman for Northants Police said: "We established that he wasn't able to work in this country.

"He left the shop insecure and walked out so we boarded the shop up because we couldn't get hold of the shop owner.

"We had to make sure the premises was secure."

Officers spent several hours at the shop while waiting for it to be secured and for the owner to arrive.

A spokesman for the Home Office confirmed they had been contacted by Northants Police about the man who walked out and they will be getting in touch with him.
