Wellingborough shop boarded up by police after worker walks out
Officers had to secure the premises while waiting for the owner to arrive
Police had to board up a shop after a routine visit revealed a worker wasn't allowed to work in this country.
During a routine visit to the European Mini Market in Cambridge Street, Wellingborough, on Tuesday, police spoke to a man working there and discovered he did not have permission to work in this country.
A spokesman for Northants Police said: "We established that he wasn't able to work in this country.
"He left the shop insecure and walked out so we boarded the shop up because we couldn't get hold of the shop owner.
"We had to make sure the premises was secure."
Officers spent several hours at the shop while waiting for it to be secured and for the owner to arrive.
A spokesman for the Home Office confirmed they had been contacted by Northants Police about the man who walked out and they will be getting in touch with him.
