Wellingborough school teaching has reached top quality mark - that is scientifically proven

Oakway Academy Academy in Wellingborough has been awarded the Primary Science Quality Mark for the second time.

The prestigious award is given for excellence in science, teaching and learning.

Principal of Oakway Academy Clare Wallace said: “I am very proud that we have achieved this recognition.

"It is the culmination of hard work from the teaching staff who lead and deliver engaging science lessons to our passionate and motivated children.

"The impact of this will help to develop and enhance the children’s learning now and in the future.

"This award continues Oakway’s journey towards developing PRIDE in teaching and learning."

The Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM) is led by the University of Hertfordshire, School of Education in collaboration with the Primary Science Teaching Trust.

Jane Turner, PSQM national director, said: “Gaining a Primary Science Quality Mark is a significant achievement for a school.

"The profile and quality of science teaching and learning in each awarded school is very high.

"Children are engaging with great science both in and outside the classroom, developing positive attitudes towards science as well as secure scientific understanding and skills.

"Science subject leaders, their colleagues, head teachers, children, parents and governors should be very proud.”
