Midland Scaffolding Services (MSS), based in Edmonds Close, on the Denington Industrial Estate, has undertaken the mammoth task of putting up a scaffolding structure of 42 metres high and 260 metres long around the iconic Selfridges store in Birmingham.

Amie Rooney, Quantity Surveyor at MSS, said: “It will be by far the most complex job we have ever undertaken and one of the most complex scaffold jobs currently in the country.

“The building curves so there is not one straight run of scaffold. We need to put up more than 170 scaffold towers before we put up one of the largest temporary roofs in the country to cover the building.”

Once completed the scaffolding will be hidden by the largest ever scaffolding wrap to allow 15,000 silver discs that adorn the store to be removed and renovated.

The project is one of many high profile contracts carried out by the multi-million pound turnover MSS, founded 39 years ago by Adrian Rooney.

They include Milton Keynes Cathedral, Sol Central Northampton, the University of Northampton.

The firm is also known for the scaffolding that has been on the Fat Cats building in Bridge Street, Northampton, since a fire in 2012.
