Wellingborough man jailed for 13 years for sexually abusing a child

A Wellingborough man has been jailed for 13 years for sexually abusing a child over a two-year period.

Stephen Torr, 46, came to the attention of Bedfordshire Police in October 2020 when the victim told someone that she had been abused when she was younger.

Following the disclosure, the force launched an investigation. However, before it could conclude, the victim sadly died.

A trial went ahead in February 2025 but resulted in a hung jury.

A second trial went ahead in September and Torr was found guilty of one count of assault by penetration, one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent and three counts of sexual assault.

Torr, of Nags Head Lane, Wellingborough, was today (Wednesday, March 25) sentenced at Luton Crown Court to 13 years in prison.

He will also be the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will have to sign the Sex Offenders Register until further order.

Detective Constable David Widdicombe said: “First and foremost our thoughts remain with the victim’s family. This was a truly harrowing case.

“Despite immense challenges, the victim showed remarkable courage in disclosing what had happened, and today’s sentence reflects the seriousness of Torr’s actions.

“Although she is sadly no longer with us to see this outcome, we hope this result brings a measure of justice for her and some comfort to those who loved and supported her.

“We remain committed to pursuing offenders who target vulnerable people and ensuring they are held fully accountable for their actions.”
