Firefighters and staff from Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service volunteered their time on Saturday at a Covid secure charity “drive through” charity car wash and coffee morning.

The event at Wellingborough Fire Station in Irthlingborough Road was a huge success, raising £1,400 for two charities.

Around 140 visitors brought their cars to the fire station to be cleaned by their local firefighters and fire staff in return for a donation to support The Firefighters Charity and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Visitors also enjoyed a takeaway coffee and a cake as an extra treat before they left.

Crew Commander Ronnie Sherratt, organiser for the event, was delighted with the turn out; and said: “The cancellation of many fundraising events during the pandemic has caused a significant income loss to many charities.

"That’s why we wanted to get behind a couple of charities close to our hearts and set up the car wash as soon as we were able to.

“I would like to thank all the fire service staff who gave up their time to help at the car wash, or by providing sweet treats, and also to the local community who generously donated to the two fantastic causes.”
