A Wellingborough care home is keeping competitive spirits high this summer by hosting a sports week during the same week the Tokyo Olympics were due to start.

From today (Monday, July 20) to Sunday, July 26, Bilton Court residents will be taking part in one-minute sport challenges in a range of activities, like basketball, cricket, football, table tennis, golf and rugby.

"Activity is so important for both fitness and wellbeing and we are all looking forward to try and bring the trophy home to Bilton Court!"

Bilton Court is run by Anchor, a not-for-profit care provider which runs 114 care homes. Anchor said encouraging physical activity is very important in care homes when 7.2m older people in England are classed as physically inactive.

The Wellingborough care home has been provided with specially-adapted sports equipment to help those living with dementia can participate.

Resident Claire Steele, 88, has enjoyed practising with this equipment and is looking forward to trying new sports with support, as she can't see well.

Bilton Court also want locals to get involved in a TRYathlon of fun sports challenges like toilet roll keepie-uppies.

If you want to try one of these challenges, share a video on social media using the hashtag #SummerofSport2020 and posts will be turned into a montage for residents to enjoy.
