Earlier this year its premises was damaged when trees fell during high winds and the money donated will help to repair the building.

The £1,000 donation is from Barrat and David Wilson's community fund scheme which supports local charities that are nominated each month by employees.

Denise Longley, trustee and volunteer at Animals in Need, said: "This has been a lovely surprise, we feel very honoured to receive the community fund donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

"It will be a great help towards the funding for the damaged fencing. These additional unexpected costings have an impact on the charity and so any help is much appreciated.

"This means we can help cover these costs and still have funding available for the day to day running. We think the community fund scheme is wonderful and would like to say a huge thank you."

Animals In Need was set up in 1990 and is run by eight volunteers. In the thirty years it has been running, the charity has grown and runs an animal ambulance, two water crafts and trailers.

Andrew Swindell, regional managing director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Northampton, said: "This year has been an incredibly important year to help our local community. However, we must not forget our furry, fluffy and feathered friends who have been a strong support for many throughout lockdown.

"The amazing staff and volunteers at Animals in Need have worked tirelessly to make sure Northamptonshire’s pets and wildlife are treated with the respect that they deserve and find a loving forever home or are released successfully into their natural habitat.
