Children at a Wellingborough school with more than 1,000 pupils have been told to isolate after two separate positive tests in two year groups.

Weavers Academy principal Vivien Swaida wrote to parents, carers and families to reassure them that the 'relatively small number of students' were self-isolating as a precautionary measure.

Letters were sent to parents of students in Year 12 and Year 7 on Monday and Tuesday of this week to inform them and to remind them of the rules.

Mrs Swaida said: "I want to reassure you that the school liaised closely with the Department for Education and has followed the advice and guidance provided.

"In both instances, I can confirm that no year group had to be fully closed although a relatively small number of students in Year 7 and Year 12 are currently self-isolating as a precautionary measure.

"As you are aware the school has put in place a comprehensive system of control and preventative measures in order to do everything possible to ensure that the school is as safe as possible for all site users."

The school has been taking preventative measures including grouping students into year group ‘bubbles’; zoning year group ‘bubbles’ in specific areas of the school to reduce movement; staggering the start and finish time of the day for students to avoid large numbers of students gathering in one place and minimising contact and mixing between year group ‘bubbles’.

Break times have also been reduced, start and end to the school days have been staggered as well as other social distancing measures being introduced.

She said: "If your child develops symptoms of Covid-19 they must not come to school and should remain at home for at least ten days from the date when their symptoms appeared.

"As parents, carers and families of the school we thank you for your continued support in working with us in order to minimise potential risk."
