As roads and pavements slowly thaw out across the area, refuse services have been disrupted for a second day with some routes impassable and icy pavements unsafe to use.

In Corby, crews were back out on the streets offering a limited service to some areas, but Wellingborough collections will remain suspended until tomorrow (Wednesday).

A statement from Corby Council said: "All crews for black bins, recycling bins, and food bins are out today, they are however offering a limited service to some areas.

"If your bin was not emptied yesterday, please leave it presented and we will return as soon as we can.

"If your bin is not emptied today, please leave it presented and we will return as soon as it is safe to do so.

"Thank you for your understanding and thank you to these hard-working keyworkers."

A statement on behalf of Wellingborough Norse, who collect the bins across the borough, said: "Black bin collections have been suspended today due to the weather conditions.

"Although most of the main roads are clear, the side streets and pavements are still very icy, which makes it difficult and potentially dangerous for the bin crews.

"The forecast is set to improve and Wellingborough Norse expect collections to resume tomorrow.

"This may have a knock on effect on collections throughout the week and it is likely the teams will work Saturday to complete the catch up.

"Thank you for your patience."

Refuse collections in East Northants have been continuing as normal.

A spokeman for East Northants council said: "We can confirm that bin collections are running as normal today and will be emptying bins that were due to be collected yesterday on Saturday, January 30."
