Both patients had underlying health conditions.

A KGH spokesman said: "Sadly, we can confirm that two patients being cared for at our hospital, who had tested positive for COVID-19, have died.

"They were in their 70s to 80s and had underlying health conditions.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with the families and friends of those patients at this very difficult and distressing time.”

In England a total of 403 deaths were confirmed, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 4,897.

Patients were aged between 35 and 106-years-old.

Fifteen of the 403 patients (aged between 52 and 94-years-old) had no known underlying health condition. Their families have been informed.

The number of confirmed cases in Northamptonshire currently stands at 343, but the actual figure is expected to be much higher because of a lack of community testing.

The update came after Prime Minister Boris Johnson was taken to hospital last night (Sunday) as a "precaution" after he tested positive for the virus.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock - who also recently tested positive - warned that if people did not obey strict social distancing and exercise laws he may have to tighten rules to mean that no exercise will be allowed.
