Traffic light misery for Wellingborough road users

A two-way set of traffic lights will allow workers from Virgin Media to lay ducts from the back of properties in Haddon Way, across Niort Way.

Scheduled to last from Monday, January 13 to Friday, January 24, the work is part of the nearby Glenvale Park infrastructure installation.

A spokesman for Virgin Media said: "These works are part of our network expansion. We are in the process of connecting homes on a nearby new build development.

"We have a permit for ten days but we are hoping to complete this much sooner."

Residents of the nearby Gleneagles estate have had a further set of traffic lights to deal with as emergency roadworks started at 11am on Thursday, January 9.

A set of four-way lights were in place on the roundabout at the junction of Gleneagles Drive, Chatsworth Drive and Barnwell Road.

Jan Snijder, who lives on the estate, said: "It's a bit of a nightmare. I'm avoiding the area as much as possible.

"I'm going round past Redwell School and use Kilborn Road."

Martyn Griggs, who lives on the opposite side of the estate in Chatsworth Drive, said: "It caught everybody off-guard and has disrupted anyone using Gleneagles, Barnwell or Chatsworth going about their daily routines of travelling to pickup and drop off children at the local school.

"The traffic is also backing up onto the busy Niort Way whilst turning into Gleneagles."

It is unclear how long the repairs may take or if both sets of traffic lights will be in place at the same time.

Construction on 'ultra' site Glenvale Park, north of Niort Way began two years ago with preparations for the groundwork, with work beginning on drains and roads in spring last year.
