A Desborough football coach will take off his trainers, put on a Santa suit and a mankini to take on a shoe-less 10-mile walk and run for charity this weekend.

Mason Kerly will start off from his home in Desborough to walking and running in just socks and a mix of fancy dress outfits to raise money for the Faraway Children's Charity supporting the Northants Telegraph's annual gift appeal

The 24-year-old, a coach at FC Aztecs Football Club, has already handed over 20 hampers of goodies to 'Mother Christmas' Jeanette Walsh to be given to families living in poverty across the county.

Mason, currently working as a forklift truck driver said: "I always support charities that help children. I did some research and wanted to support Jeanette and the Faraway Children's Charity because it's going to be given to children in the county.

"The walk is going to be quite a challenge but it's going to be worth it. When I told my mum I was going to be walking in just my socks she was quite shocked. She thinks I'm mad."

No stranger to supporting charities, Mason holds an annual event to support charities. He has hiked up Snowdon, dyed his hair pink and waxed his legs.

Mason will be cheered at the finishing line by the socially-distanced parents and children at Aztec FC's Montsaye Academy training ground who have been supporting his fundraising.

He said: "We will be going round with a charity bucket for anyone who would like to donate cash. If people see me don’t be afraid to honk if in a car or speak to me if on foot."

"All that is left now is my run/walk on Saturday, the go fund me page will stay live until Sunday night in case anyone would like to donate.

This year Mason has also been supported by his employer Bunzl and Emerald House Associates who provided hampers
