Three more Nationwide branches in north Northamptonshire to install life-saving defibrillators and bleed kits

Rothwell, Corby, and Wellingborough are among the towns to benefit from new defibrillators and bleed kits as Nationwide looks to install life-saving equipment for the public to use in an emergency.

Nationwide branches in Bridge Street, Rothwell, New Post Office Square, Corby, and Market Street, Wellingborough are three of the 605 locations that will see life-saving equipment mounted to exterior walls.

The national scheme for the building society is in partnership with Visa and St John Ambulance.

Plans were given the go-ahead to install a defibrillator and bleed kit outside Nationwide’s Rushden branch in July.

Professor Andrew Hartle, chief medical officer at St John Ambulance, said: "Every minute counts in an emergency, and having access to a defibrillator or bleed control kit can make a vital difference before the ambulance service arrives.

"By increasing the availability of this life-saving equipment and giving more people the confidence to use it, we can help communities be better prepared to respond when it matters most.

"We're proud to be working with Nationwide and Visa on an initiative that is helping put the power of first aid into more people's hands."

The emergency medical equipment will be housed in its own dedicated, secure external cabinet in a prominent location on the wall of the branch by St John’s Ambulance, who will provide the cabinets that can be used by passers-by during an emergency.

Since the pilot began in June, more than 225 defibrillators and bleed control kits have already been installed at branches across the UK, with 48 already activated as Nationwide intends to equip all 605 of its branches across the UK with defibrillators and bleed control kits by the end of the year.

Elsewhere in Northamptonshire, the equipment will also be installed at branches in Northampton Kingsthorpe, Northampton Duston, Towcester, and Weston Favell.
