The first confirmed case of coronavirus in Northamptonshire was on March 3.

A week ago, on Saturday, March 21, there were 20 confirmed cases. In the seven days since, confirmed cases have increased more than five times.

The UK now has 17,089 confirmed cases and 1,019 people have died after testing positive for covid-19.

Currently, only those being hospitalised for covid-19 are being tested so the actual number of people infected with coronavirus is thought to be much higher.

The UK has been in 'lockdown' measures since Monday evening when Prime Minister Boris Johnson instructed people to stay in their homes unless travelling to essential work, for essential supplies, one daily exercise or essential medical or care needs.

The measures are designed to slow the spread of infection and reduce the number of people requiring critical care from the NHS to stop the service being overwhelmed.
