It was a dream weekend for five Corby neighbours as they shared £150,000 thanks to their lucky postcode.

The residents, who all live in the Islay Walk area, scooped £30,000 each when NN17 2PN was announced as People's Postcode Lottery's winning postcode today (Sunday).

But because of the Covid crisis there was no knock on the door or big cheque presentations - with the lucky residents instead finding out virtually.

One of the winners was semi-retired Neil McLellan, 55, who found out how much he’d won on a video call with ambassador Matt Johnson.

When asked who he’d tell about the win first, Neil joked: “I better not tell my mother, or she’ll have a heart attack!”

And it's not the first time a member of Neil's family has netted a windfall on the postcode lottery - after his brother's partner scooped a prize a few years ago.

Neil said: “My brother’s partner won £1,000 a while back actually.

"I’m seeing my brother later today so he will be happy to find out how much I’ve won.”

The other four winners chose to remain anonymous.

One said: “I’m chuffed. This has made my year.”

After finding out that four of his neighbours had won too, Neil said: “May they all enjoy it.

"It can change a lot of people’s lives.

"It’s been a hard year but we’re a close-knit town.”

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Matt Johnson said: “It was my pleasure to virtually present Neil with his cheque.

"I hope he spends it wisely and treats himself to something nice.

"A big congratulations too all of our other Corby winners too."

The People’s Postcode Lottery costs £10 a month to play with postcodes automatically entered into all draws.

A total of 32 per cent of ticket sales goes directly to good causes and players of People’s Postcode Lottery have helped raise more than £600m for good causes since 2005.

The jackpot is the latest big prize to be won by a player in north Northamptonshire.

On Thursday (October 1) two people in Rockingham Road, Kettering, woke up £1,000 better off.

In July a winner in the Northampton Road area of Kettering netted a £30,000 jackpot.

And since March neighbours in streets including Rushden's Newbury Close, Weldon's Church View, Wellingborough's Oakway and Corby's Elizabeth Street and Welland Vale Road have all won £1,000.
