Spider-Man brings a cheer to Burton Latimer during lockdown

The initiative is raising money for a good cause too

If you think you've seen Spider-Man running through the streets of Burton Latimer in recent days, you're not dreaming.

That's because Brett Owen has been enjoying his daily lockdown exercise dressed as the superhero in a bid to cheer people up during the coronavirus crisis.

Sales rep Brett, 38, runs a party Spider-Man hire operation alongside his day job but has seen events, including one in May in Corby, cancelled as the UK attempts to stop the spread of the killer virus.

He said: "There's a lot of disappointed children out there so I thought I would go for a run and cheer some faces up.

"It's just giving them and the parents something to look forward to.

"They are all giving me a wave from the window and it's getting a great reaction - I'm hitting every street in town."

Runs start at 10.30am each day and today's (Tuesday's) will take in Spinney Road, Woodland Drive, The Crescent, Poplar Road, Aldwinckle Road, Slipton Road, Twywell Way, Woodford Road and Cranford Road.

Routes for upcoming days can be found on the Facebook page hereBrett's daily runs have been a hit with several social media posts attracting hundreds of 'likes'.

And not only is it bringing a smile to people's faces, but it's raising money for a good cause.

Brett set up a fundraising page to raise money for the £1m KGH Twinkling Stars Appeal, an appeal to improve the Rothwell Road hospital's maternity bereavement facilities.

He has friends, including Chloe and Chris Turner, who have lost young children and had to use the current bereavement facilities.

Brett is also offering personalised Spider-Man video messages for a donation by messaging 'Party Spiderman for Hire' on Facebook

So far he has raised more than £300 and he hopes to exceed his £500 target.
