Police are appealing for witnesses after a smash and grab at the Asda store in Raunds.

Thieves broke into the shop just off the A45 shortly before 12.55am today (Thursday) and stole a quantity of tobacco products.

They set off the intruder alarm and two males were seen leaving the store before getting into a dark-coloured vehicle.

A spokesman for Asda: ''We are working closely with police following an incident at the Raunds store overnight.

"The store is operating as normal, however some services at the kiosk are temporarily unavailable.''

A spokesman for Northants Police said: "Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have been offered such items for sale or who may have any information regarding this incident.

"Witnesses are asked to call Northamptonshire Police on 101 quoting reference number 20000152411."

And the spokesman added: "We would like to stress that this incident is not being linked to Covid-19."
