Sister Act is coming to Corby - shout Hail Mary!

It’s time to raise those wimples and praise the lord as Sister Act comes to The Core at Corby Cube

The much-loved musical is at the Core for a five-show run in April.

Presented by Rutland Musical Theatre, the uplifting show follows the story of Deloris Van Cartier, who witnesses a murder and is placed in protective custody in a convent. Disguised in a habit, she breathes new life into the church and with it, publicity, which blows her cover.

RMT Musical Director Emma Gant, is now in her second year with the company. She was previously involved with the successful Shrek production last year.

A graduate of the prestigious Purcell School, and now head of music at Brook Priory School, Emma said music was in her blood.

"As a family we’ve always been musical,” she said.

"I play violin and piano as a child and then I went on to do music at university where I did a lot more singing and found a real love for it.

"I was approached last year by the director of Shrek as they were looking for a musical director.

"I’ve really enjoyed working with everyone here to get the best out of them. I love the whole process.

“I can’t believe the standard of singing, acting and dancing. It’s just been so impressive.”

There are 35 actors involved in the show from across Northamptonshire, Stamford and Rutland. The cast is led by the incredible Nerissa Simmone from Northampton, who is a backing singer for Pixie Lott and takes on the lead role of Deloris in Sister Act.

"She makes it look effortless,” said Emma.

"She’s really incredible.”

Sara Ashley, who plays a nun in the show, said that the company’s success is down to its supportive atmosphere.

"I just love it,” she said.

"We’re really like a family here. It’s not just about doing the show. There’s no competition here, we just support each other and the result is that the shows we put on are brilliant.”

Sister Act is on at The Core at The Corby Cube from Wednesday, April 8 until Saturday, April 11 with a matinee on the Saturday.
