A campaign led by a primary school pupil to give unwanted glasses to those in need has paid off after a Kettering opticians stepped in to help.

Nine-year-old Seth Albert, who attends Cranford C of E Primary School in Church Lane, found five of his old spectacles and wanted to do something with them to help those who may not have access to proper eye care.

After the school asked parents to donate their old glasses they collected more than 20 pairs, but had nowhere to give them to after finding a charity the Year 5 pupil had learned about no longer accepted donations.

But the glasses will now be sent overseas after Specsavers Kettering stepped in to take them to sort and send on.

Specsavers Kettering store director Mark Turner said: "Unfortunately the charity Seth hoped to give the specs to, Vision Aid Overseas (VAO), had stopped accepting glasses for donation.

"So, when we saw what an amazing effort he’d made, we were keen to help out and so arranged to collect the specs so that we can send them on to clinics abroad for those in need."

As a thank you for Seth’s hard work Mark presented him with a certificate during a remote school assembly.

He's also been given a gift card so he could shop online and treat himself to some new sports gear.

Mark added: "It was an honour to be able to say thank you to Seth.

"These are challenging times for us all and so to see children like Seth going above and beyond really is heart-warming. He’s a great example to others."
