Landmarks across Rushden have been lit up as people say thank you to the NHS and to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

Rushden Hall has been lit up to show appreciation for the hard work and efforts of all the NHS staff, carers and key workers.

The display has been provided by Lightning Lloyd, who also did a number of light displays in the town as it marked the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

Friday (May 8) saw many Rushden residents taking to their gardens and doorsteps to commemorate the end of war in Europe 75 years ago.

Rushden homes, shops and historic buildings were decorated in red, white and blue bunting, with people enjoying cakes and scones as well as singing along to Dame Vera Lynn's 'We'll Meet Again.'

Rushden Town Council decorated the Cenotaph with bunting, the infamous Rushden bikes were adorned with British flags, and Lightning Lloyd created a light display projecting onto the Cenotaph, St Mary's Church and Rushden Station.

Cllr Melanie Coleman made these comments about her own street's VE day experience, saying: "Balham Close certainly did their best to Celebrate VE Day, decorating houses, baking cakes and scones.

"The younger members doing chalk drawings.

"All whilst maintaining social distancing.

"We've even planned a street 'bake off' when restrictions are lifted.

"A day to remember with new friendships made."
