A Rushden car dealer's canine mascot has added his paw print to a worldwide collection after an unexpected letter.

Croyland Car Megastore in Northampton Road were contacted by an American autograph collector named Ramsey, from Little Rock in Arkansas, who wanted the signature of Cooper the dog.

The letter travelled more than 4,000 miles across the pond, with Ramsey hoping to add Cooper's autograph to his collection of mascot signatures from around the globe.

And Cooper, who has a legion of fans in north Northants and has made appearances at schools and events, was more than happy to oblige - posting his autograph straight back.

In the letter, addressed personally to Cooper the dog, Ramsey wrote: “Dear Cooper, I am sending you a big hug all the way from the United States! Wish I could meet you someday.

"I’m collecting autographs from mascots all over the world. If you could send me yours that would be great…have a nice day!”

Mark Swindells, general manager at Croyland Car Megastore, said: “We get a lot of different requests here at Croyland and are always happy to help, however this fan mail for Cooper requesting his autograph was a first!

“This transatlantic ‘tail’ has brought a smile to all our faces. Cooper, being the honourable hound he is, who likes to deliver a first class service, was only too happy to help.

"Cooper responded to Ramsey’s request and it’s great to know Cooper’s put his paw print on this and his autograph is now part of collection of mascots signatures sourced from all over the world.”
