Rushden estate store to shut up shop
A Rushden convenience store will close permanently, a week after its Post Office counter was also shut.
McColl's supermarket in Grangeway shopping precinct will cease trading next week.

A McColl’s spokesperson said: “Having explored all options, regretfully we have taken the difficult decision to cease trading at the McColl’s store in Grangeway in Rushden.
"The store’s last day of trading will be Friday, January 17. We are saddened to no longer be operating the store and our priority has been to support all affected colleagues.”

Grangeway Post Office, located within the store managed McColl's staff, closed yesterday (Thursday, January 8).
Branch manager Sarah Hobbs said: "It's very sad for all the local customers but we can't compete.
"Thanks to all the customers for their loyal support. We are all going to miss them and they'll miss us."

Mrs Hobbs added: "We would like people to come in and say goodbye before we close."
A spokesman for the Post Office said: “ We understand how important a Post Office is to a community and we are committed to providing a Post Office in the area."
The spokesman added: "We have an interested retailer. Talks are at an early stage."
