Rushden charity offers fellowship at free family fun day

A charity in Rushden for people in recovery from addiction has started 2020 with a series of events to highlight their life-changing work.

Members of Rushden's Saturday Cocaine Anonymous (CA) meet to support people who have been addicted to any mind-altering substance including Class A drugs - heroin, crack cocaine, cocaine - Class B drugs such as cannabis, prescription medication and alcohol.

Next Saturday Rushden CA will host a fellowship fun day for families - earlier in the month the group financed a graffiti art project using space provided by Rushden Town Council.

The founder of the Rushden CA group, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: "Cocaine Anonymous Rushden has a family fellowship day. It is a chance for anyone suffering with addiction or connected to someone suffering with addiction to come together.

"It will be a chance to meet those who have recovered and people whose lives have been affected by addiction, share experiences and seek support and unity."

The event at Park Road Baptist Church in Park Road, Rushden, takes place on Saturday, January 25 from 12 noon to 4pm.

People are invited to bring their families to share the free buffet.

Earlier in January, the members watched a graffiti artist decorate mural art spaces provided by Rushden Town Council to advertise the group's work.

Cocaine Anonymous' logo and contact details now adorn part of the Jubilee Park skate park in Bedford Road and a wall near to the Spencer Park tennis courts in Washbrook Road.

The Rushden CA spokesman said: "Personally I think they are very powerful pieces of public information artwork. The feedback from our members on the European public information committee has been really positive.

"The Netherlands is planning a similar event in the coming weeks after seeing this. This is certainly something that’s very positive for the local community and hopefully will see more people seek help.

"Rushden Town Council have been fantastic. They are really trying to make inroads with the drug problem in Rushden."
