Rushden care home evacuated after tumble dryer fire
A fire at Higham House in Rushden caused by a gas-powered tumble dryer led to the care home in Higham Road being evacuated.
Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a fire shortly before 7.30pm on Monday (December 15) where crews found a fire involving a gas-powered tumble dryer in a ground floor laundry room.
After isolating the gas supply to the building, a hose reel jet was used to distinguish the fire and fans used to clear smoke out of the building.
A fire service spokesman said: "Crews from Irthlingborough, Wellingborough and Burton Latimer returned to their stations once the scene was safe, shortly before 11.30pm.

“The fire service returned yesterday morning (Tuesday, December 16) to conduct a fire investigation, which determined that the tumble dryer fire started accidentally.”
One woman in her 90s was showing signs of smoke inhalation and was given first aid and oxygen by fire crews and then left in the care of paramedics.
