The boss of a Rothwell academy trust says they are grateful for the support of the community and authorities after a tough 12 months for their sports centre.

Rothwell's Community Sports Centre, part of Montsaye Academy, is facing financial challenges after lengthy closures in 2020/21 because of the pandemic resulted in significant losses in income.

But because it is part of the Pathfinder Schools multi-academy trust, much of the Government support available for businesses forced to close hasn't been available to the sports centre.

The trust has, however, received messages of support from Rothwell Town Council and financial assistance from Sport England.

And this week they received confirmation that Persimmon Homes, who are currently building the Woodland Valley housing development in Rothwell, intend to donate £1,000 to support the centre in 2021.

Pathfinder Schools chief executive Ann Davey said: “We are so grateful of the support that has been offered by Persimmon Homes and welcome the opportunity to work with national and local businesses to support the long-term sustainability of the sports centre, which plays such a crucial role in the wellbeing of our community."

The sports centre, which employs a number of local residents, provides swimming and fitness facilities to the residents of Rothwell, neighbouring towns, villages and local schools, as well as being the training home of FC Aztec, Rothwell and Desborough’s popular youth football club.
