RETRO: Picture special - The changing face of Kettering's town centre streets and shops
A look through the archives at the shops of yesterday
Everyone will have their favourite Kettering shops now and over the years, from little quirky independent boutiques to large chains stores like Woolworth's and M&S.
Shops come and go, and the commercial centre of town is ever developing: the pedestrianisation of town centre streets and the move indoors to the Newborough Centre in 1977 - expanded and renamed the Newlands Centre in 1990.
People remember the handsome older buildings and shops that were demolished to make way for modern buildings and yearn for a return to previous incarnations of the town centre.
The retail sector has been booming during lockdown with online outlets providing super-convenient door-to-door deliveries.
After Covid restrictions are lifted, traditional high street stores will be welcoming back customers to the shops to experience the joys of browsing and the personal service from knowledgeable staff.
