Residents invited to join Corby Pole Fair 2022 community panel

People from Corby are being invited to have their say and get involved in the celebration of the town's Pole Fair.

Organisers are asking residents to join a focus group about Corby Pole Fair 2022 that will be held on Saturday, November 14.

A community panel has been set up to plan the the fair and they will meet at St John’s Church Hall in High Street in Corby Old Village from 2pm to 4pm.

A spokesman said: "It’s important to get local people involved, so if you live or work in Corby we would love you to attend our session to discuss ideas and see how you could be involved.

"We are starting early to make sure we plan something really special."

Numerous traditions take place at each fair, including a peel of bells rung by St John the Baptist Church, a dawn parade with a reading of the town's charter, floral gateways to the Old Village and a greasy pole competition.

At the celebration, every person entering the village has to pay a small toll or face the stocks. Previous fairs have also included markets, performances, historical re-enactments and a large funfair.

Organisers are also looking for archive photographs and home movies of Pole Fairs of the past.The spokesman added: "Due to Government guidance on Covid, you must book to attend so that we can keep numbers to a safe level.

"We ask for a telephone number for Track and Trace purposes. Only one person per household or group should attend and bring a mask."
