Rescue cat found in Rushden treated by vets for injuries consistent with being kicked

A cat is recovering at a Northamptonshire charity's sanctuary after it was found in Rushden suffering injuries consistent with being kicked in the abdomen.

The badly-hurt feline was found injured in Rushden last week before he was brought to a Northlands Veterinary to receive emergency surgery.

At first, surgeons thought the cat - dubbed Owen - had been hit by a car. But on closer inspection, the moggy's injuries were most consistent with being kicked.

Owen had suffered major trauma to his abdomen that ruptured his diaphragm and causing his organs to push through into his chest cavity.

A spokeswoman for RSPCA Northamptonshire later wrote on their Facebook page: "Injuries like Owen's can sometimes be caused when a cat is hit by a car.

"However, these are normally accompanied by injuries to their paws and claws. Horrifyingly, the vet team who treated Owen, believe his injuries are more consistent with being kicked.

"It is hard to fathom why anyone would deliberately cause such pain to an innocent animal."

Owen is now recovering with the RSPCA with the hopes he will one day recover enough to find a new home.
