Replacement chairman of North Northamptonshire Council elected into office

Reform UK’s Cllr Andy Sims, North Northamptonshire Council member for Finedon, has been elected to serve as chairman of the council until May 2027.

Cllr Sims has replaced Reform’s previous incumbent Cllr Maurice Eglin who resigned after offensive social media posts from his ‘keyboard warrior’ days were revealed.

At the heat-delayed North Northamptonshire Council full council meeting on Thursday (July 16), councillors welcomed the new chairman.

The role of the chairman is a largely ceremonial one, including chairing full council meetings and representing the area at civic functions and events.

Cllr Sims said: “It is a real honour to have been chosen as chairman of North Northamptonshire Council. I’m looking forward to representing our communities over the coming year, supporting local events and organisations, and working alongside fellow councillors to promote the area.

“I’m particularly pleased to be supporting my chosen charities, which do such valuable work for residents across North Northamptonshire.”

Cllr Sims has selected Wicksteed Park and Two Wheels For Life as his charities for his year.

The next full council is due to take place on Thursday, September 24.
