A 75-year-old man from Desborough is taking on a challenge to run 124 miles and raise money for the air ambulance.

Keith Brown has been a volunteer for the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) for the last three years and has now set himself a running challenge to do all he can to help the vital charity, which is reliant on donations.

He's stepped out of running retirement after 25 years to complete the Ring of Kerry Virtual Challenge by December 16.

The retired business development manager said: “I volunteer for the charity as it is such a great service that saves lives daily.

"From the moment I began volunteering I have seen how enthusiastic all the staff and teams are about the charity, and in turn, so am I."

He added: “I will be running a total of 124 miles over a 10-week period, and at my age, that’s no mean feat.

“I looked at various running events, but I wanted to do something different and to also test myself by having to get out and do a bit every day no matter the weather."

Keith’s fundraising run is a virtual challenge event run by The Conqueror Virtual Challenges and it will see him run the distance of the scenic coastal landscapes, beautiful forests, small villages, and peaceful monasteries of The Ring of Kerry - all from the paths of Desborough.

Challenge events administrator for WNAA, Laura Eaton, said: “We think Keith is remarkable and we are really grateful to him for taking on this epic challenge in support of his local air ambulance.

“Taking part in a virtual event like The Ring of Kerry challenge is such a fun experience and I would highly recommend anyone to get signed up and give it a go - it’s a great achievement whilst raising lifesaving funds."
