Raunds mayor 'proud' to hand cash grant to local brass band

Raunds Temperance Band has been handed a cheque for £500 from the town mayor, going towards helping the band continue their work.

The community grant was given to the band to help with continued venue hire costs following the recent closure of the band's previous rehearsal space.

Cllr Richard Levell, Mayor of Raunds said: "I am delighted that the town council has been able to assist the Raunds Temperance Band through our grant scheme. We are proud to support their ongoing work and look forward to hearing them play throughout the coming year."

Raunds Temperance Band is a traditional Brass Band made up of Raunds locals, regularly playing at local events in and around the town such as Raunds Remembrance Parade and the Raunds Christmas Lights Switch-On.

The band has a rich history, having been formed by the Temperance Society in 1886 when an old set of instruments were bought from Rushden Temperance Band.

The cash grant will go a way towards preserving the band’s future.
