Protest planned outside Wellingborough private bank to 'highlight the gross inequalities of income and wealth'

Independent Socialists in Wellingborough (ISW) will stage a protest outside a private bank in Wellingborough to 'highlight the gross inequalities of income and wealth'.

The group is due to protest outside Weatherbys Bank next Tuesday (March 3) – the date chosen to coincide with the Government's Spring Statement.

As Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves stands up in the House to inform Parliament about the state of the economy and future tax and spending plans, ISM will gather in Sanders Road.

A spokesman for ISW said: “ISW has identified a private bank in Wellingborough (Weatherbys Bank) which services the super rich.

“They say "typically we consider taking on individuals earning over £500,000 a year, or those that have assets worth more than £5m’.

“ISW is organising a protest outside Weatherbys Bank next Tuesday, March 3, at 11am to highlight the gross inequalities of income and wealth how the billionaires/ super rich get richer and the 90 per cent of people poorer.”

The group has called for a wealth tax and increased tax on those earning over £100K a year.

ISW’s spokesman added: “The super rich are leeches on the back of a decent society for all.

“The role of private banks like Weatherbys whose sole purpose is to make the already super rich even richer by doing no productive work and avoiding paying taxes which the rest of us have to pay.“

A spokesman for Weatherbys Bank said: “We respect the right to peaceful protest. Our focus remains on serving our clients responsibly and supporting the communities in which we operate. We do not comment on individual demonstrations.”
