Police crackdown on 'nuisance' Sur-Ron bikes in Wellingborough
Northamptonshire Police officers have responded to concerns surrounding the use of electric dirt bikes by seizing the bikes they call a ‘nuisance.’
Police say the electric dirt bikes are being ridden in an ‘anti-social manner’ in Wellingborough, and, in response, officers in the town have seized the e-bikes.
PC Ben Morris and PC Russell Barnes said: “Good neighbourhood policing is all about listening to the worries and concerns of the residents who live on our patch and responding to them.
“A number of people have raised issues with these off-road bikes and we are determined to respond to these concerns and do everything we can to tackle the issue.

“We hope these seizures demonstrate that commitment and we will continue working hard to take more of these nuisance bikes off our streets in Wellingborough.”
One such seizure took place last Wednesday (January 28) when PC Morris saw a Sur-Ron bike being ridden down Kingsway in Wellingborough at about 4.30pm and taken into an address. PC Morris then gained entry into the property, and seized the vehicle.
On January 29, PC Russell Barnes and PC Josh Unsworth were taking part in a Beat Bus surgery just after midday in the Brooke Close area when the rider of a Sur-Ron bike rode right past them.
The bike was subsequently seized.
Sur-Ron bikes are lightweight electric off-road motorbikes, often being capable of speeds up to 70 miles-per hour, depending on the model.
In the UK, those who ride a road-legal Sur-Ron bike on public roads must be at least 16 years old, with valid insurance and a a Compulsory Basic Training certificate.
