'Plan ahead' for full closure of A14 at Thrapston with official diversion to 'prevent rat-running'

Motorists using the A14 in Northamptonshire have been reminded to plan ahead for a longer journey if travelling westbound.

National Highways are continuing their bridge repairs this weekend between Junctions 13 and 12 with a full closure from Friday (January 23) at 8pm to Monday (January 26) at 6am.

The full weekend closure for is to allow for bridge joint removal at the River Nene bridge.

A spokesman for National Highways said: “Reminder! The A14 westbound is closed from J13 to J12 from 8pm this Friday to 6am on Monday January 26 for Nene Viaduct work near Thrapston.

"To prevent rat-running, traffic will be diverted via the A45 and A6 to rejoin at J10.

We’ll continue using the diversion route of the A45 and A6 detailed below, but please note the westbound entry slip road at Junction 12 will remain open over the weekend.

“To reduce traffic cutting through local communities where weight limits are in place (particularly Thrapston) we'll divert traffic off the A14 at Junction 10, along the A6 and A45 to re-join the A14 at Junction 13, or vice versa. This route is suitable for HGVs.”

Motorists have been asked to ‘plan ahead’ and ‘allow extra time’.

The westbound entry slip road at Junction 12 will remain open over the weekend.
