PICTURE SPECIAL: Corby Remembrance Sunday - a town determined to pay respects

The service was organised by Corby Branch of the Royal British Legion

More than one hundred people have paid their respects at Corby War Memorial in the Old Village at a socially-distanced ceremony organised by the Corby Branch of the Royal British Legion .

Poppy wreaths were laid by Corby town mayor Cllr Lawrence Ferguson, Tom Pursglove, MP for Corby and East Northants, as well as by representatives from the armed forces, town organisations and members of the public.

The Act of Remembrance included the Last Post, a lament played on bagpipes, and The Exhortation, read by Liz Harries, with prayers by Rev Paul Frost.

Gareth Price, chairman of the Corby Branch of the Royal British Legion said: "It was a very good turnout. I'm not surprised. Everyone did as they were asked - maintained their distance, stayed in their bubbles and wore facemasks.

"We have done it officially and had a track and trace QR code. I hope next year we will be back to normal."

Tom Pursglove MP said: "It is important as a community and as a country to come together and pay our respects to those people who have given their lives.

"The Royal British Legion has done a remarkable job. I didn't expect to see so many people - it just shows the support in the community."
