People have just two weeks to wait until another restaurant opens at Rushden Lakes.

National chain Loungers - who already have cafe bars in Kettering, Corby and Wellingborough - are opening Lago Lounge at the end of the retail park's leisure terrace.

The unit, next to Greggs, was originally proposed to be taken on by Tex-Mex chain Chiquito.

But Loungers are taking on the unit and are set to open on Wednesday, February 19.

A statement on the Loungers website says: "The builders are currently hard at work finishing off Lago Lounge in time for our opening on 19th Feb!

"Lago Lounge in Rushden Lakes will be a home from home, offering delicious food and drinks, all day, on your doorstep.

"We are proud of our Lounge and its community and our aim is simple: every customer leaves happy."

The website says the restaurant will also have board games for big and small guests, toys for little ones, and refreshments for dogs.

Loungers was founded by three friends in Bristol in 2002 and now has about 150 branches across the UK with quirky interiors.

In 2015 they opened Kino Lounge in Market Place in Kettering, converting a building which was formerly a cinema.

In April the following year they opened Castello Lounge in Wellingborough's Market Street, replacing the closed McDonald's.

And four months later they branched out into Corby, bringing Paletto Lounge to Corporation Street.

Lago, the name of their proposed Rushden Lakes branch, translates as lake in Spanish.

Menu choices at Loungers restaurants include brunches, sandwiches, tapas dishes and burgers as well as a gluten-free and vegan menu.

Lago Lounge is the latest restaurant to open at Rushden Lakes, which has attracted millions of visitors since it opened in 2017.

Other restaurants that have already opened include Nando's, Wagamama, Five Guys and Bill's as well as Caribbean restaurant Blue Mountain Yard.

Loungers has been contacted for further information about their plans for the opening of Lago Lounge.
