The UK's appreciation of the NHS as our healthcare workers tackle the COVID-19 pandemic has been heard loudly and clearly during the weekly rounds of applause.

However many professionals in the health service are calling for more personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep them safe as they treat patients and for more testing of staff.

A shortage of PPE is leaving healthcare professionals at risk of contracting COVID-19 from patients.

Seven health care professionals have died after contracting coronavirus.

They are nurses Aimee O'Rourke and Aeema Nasreen, mental health nurse Thomas Harvey, and doctors Dr Alfa Sa'adu, Dr Amged El-Hawrani, Dr Habib Zaidi, and Dr Adil El Tayar.
