Tips across Northamptonshire will remain open during the impending national lockdown, the county council has confirmed.

Back in March, recycling centres across the county closed when the first national coronavirus lockdown was implemented.

The tips did not reopen until May and there were long queues as residents were keen to get rid of the household rubbish that had built up while spending more time at home.

Since the reopening, queues have continued to feature in a trip to the tip as social distancing remains in place.

Now that a second national lockdown has been announced, concerns were growing that tips may have to shut again.

However, Northamptonshire County Council has confirmed that all nine of the county's recycling centres will remain open during the month-long lockdown.

A statement posted on its website says: "The HWRCs (household waste recycling centres) will remain open throughout the period of additional Covid-19 restrictions commencing on November 5, 2020.

"Social distancing will continue to be enforced at all HWRCs and as a result there may be queues to access the sites. Please consider if your visit is absolutely necessary."

Brixworth, Corby, Daventry, Kettering, Northampton (Ecton Lane and Sixfields), Rushden, Towcester and Wellingborough recycling centres will continue to open on their normal days.
