New plan for flats above Kettering Post Office
Revised plans to create apartments above the Post Office in Kettering have been submitted.
Planning permission had previously been granted to develop the upper floors of the Post Office and Royal Mail building in Lower Street, including adding a third storey.
Now a new application has been submitted, which would see the vacant floors above the Post Office converted into 27 flats, and no more stories added.
Documents submitted to North Northants Council as part of the plans say key benefits of the scheme include:

regeneration of a deteriorating town centre building;
delivery of 27 new homes in a highly sustainable location;
productive reuse of vacant upper floors above existing commercial activity;
retention of the existing Royal Mail and Post Office operations;
and minimal external alteration to the building.
The apartment layout has been configured across the first and second floors only. The submitted plans provide a total of 27 dwellings comprising 18 one-bedroom apartments and nine two-bedroom apartments.
The first floor accommodates 16 units and the second floor accommodates 11 units. The lower levels remain in postal use.
Previous plans had suggested the first, second and new third floor would become 34 residential apartments comprising of 20 one-bedroom flats and 14 two-bedroom flats.
